Here's a thought, now this is just me, but I think that Apple deliberately left the iPhone 4G at that table as a form of advertisement. What are the chances that someone would a) pick it up and know what it is and b) sell it to Gizmodo for them to report on it. It all makes very little sense to me.
But, if Apple knew the phone would get to Gizmodo and that Gizmodo would dismantle it and report on their findings, all at no advertisement cost to Apple.
